Resume:
The opening scenes and the ending have been well made. In the middle section where Chow Yun-Fat loses his memory, I really had to laugh hard, although the humour takes some getting used to. The shoot - out in the underground car park was very Chow Yun-Fat - like ... Sadly this film does not exist in German, which personally surprises me, since Part 2 (‘God of Gamblers Return’) is available in German under the title "Hard Game". Translation by Mew |

Ko Chun (Chow Yun-Fat) ist the "God of Gamblers", the king of players. He promises his friend, that he will oppose Chan Kam Shing, the best gambler in Singapore, in a game. Unfortunately Ko Chun has an accident. He falls down a slope, hits his head against a stone, and loses consciousness. He is found by Knife (Andy Lau) and his girlfriend. They take him with them and leave him overnight at their house. When Ko Chun wakes up again, he has lost his memory, doesn’t know who he is anymore and behaves like a child.
Knife realises that his "foster child" is a talented gambler, and he tries to exploit this talent for himself, so that he can earn a lot of money. But the opponents of Ko Chun have also worked out where he has ended up, and try to get rid of him. He is bundled off to hospital, operated on, and then his memory comes back to him.
