Teqs Review: Rating:
Let’s get one thing straight from the start, if you are not a fan of undiluted usage of guns, then this film is not for you.
From an objective point of view Hard Boiled consists of a stringing together of three main shoot-outs, the first one in the tea-house, the second in Wong’s hiding place for the weapons, the third at the end in the hospital, where the arms depot is also housed. Half the hospital flies up in the air, so enough action is guaranteed. Resume: The characters vary greatly. Chow Yun-Fat's role as a cop is standard fare, Tony Leung’s role is more interesting, though, as he has to battle with his conscience every time he has to kill someone. To sum up... In my opinion there is great action but rather a weak plot. But nevertheless it is my all-time favourite film. Translation by Mew |

The policeman Tequila (Chow Yun-Fat) busts an arms-smuggling ring in a tea-house, during which his friend and partner Lionheart is shot. Tequila trails the gangsters and is particularly fixated on Tony (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai), a professional killer, who works for the triads boss, Mr. Hoi. However it turns out that he works for someone else and he is not at all the person he seems to be…..
Now to the plot as such... From the very beginning a wild shoot-out in a tea-house breaks out, during which Inspector Yuen's (Chow Yun-Fat) friend is shot. Yuen is now set on revenge and intends to completely smash up the arms-smuggling ring together with its arms dealer, Wong(Antony Wong).
On the way, he comes across Tony (Tony Leung) and discovers that Tony is an undercover investigator. They both come to a working relationship and want to trace Wong’s hiding place for the arms.
