Hey there...

Postby Kudzu » 23 Jun 2010, 19:11

Hi all,

I am officially leaving lurkdom now that I have (almost) caught up on all the content here. I have to say you guys do a really great job and I am looking forward to more. I can't get me enough Yun-Fat :D

So about me - I am female and from Ireland. I fell in love after the Replacement Killers, even though I had kind of been aware of CYF somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain before that. I really didn't think on first viewing that the film was that great, but I did realise how gob-smackingly handsome CYF is and so I was hooked. I realise that that sounds shallow but I don't care! Since then I have of course become aware of what an attractive personality he has in real life, but let's just say the aesthetics are a bonus

Anyway I look forward to spending more time on this board and reading all the wonderful threads that are on here. Hats off to y'all :032:

And the mystery is solved ....
Congrats on your first step out of that dark lurking corner 8)
Hope you'll have lots of fun here.

I do like the Replacement Killers too, even though I know it's not the best movie and doesn't do CYF justice... I still enjoy viewing it every once in a while. And he's always a pleasure to watch

Are you familiar with all his Cantonese movies?

More from me maybe later on, I gotta see the football match.

Btw. I love irish-folk music. The Dubliners are great, I`ve seen them live several times!

So erm yeah.....it has taken me a while to get around to tell you more. You know the way you never seem that interesting to yourself? Well I had no idea what to write

So I'll start with what I seen/re-seen/seen-again-for-good-measure, in no particular order, just as they crop up in my mind. Some thoughts as well - so there may be spoliers. And before you ask, I am vying for the title of "Most Shallow Movie Reviewer Ever".

The Replacement Killers -putting a face on a name in my brain. Discovery of his hotness/tallness/broad-shoulder-y-ness. Why did they cut the kiss? Nice hair. Nice suit.

The Children of Huang Shi - more hotness, but older and more "centred". English improved. Again, why did they cut the kiss? Dang. Also, he is sporting a somewhat mad "I just got out of bed" hair do. Inexplicably manages to travel huge distances in a day (or so it seems). Often appears and disappears for no reason.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - not a day at a zoo, but a rather excellent meditation on frustrated love and frustrated women in a man's world. Hotness tempered by another mad hair cut, but new ability to fly was rather attractive. I started Karate at around this time too, so was impressed by his flexibility even though I knew he wasn't a martial artist.

Hardboiled - Saw subtitled version with my dad. Quoth he (insert Irish accent): "Jaysus, that fillum's mental!" Discovery of CYF's ability to run down walls, chew something, look cool, and kill gansters all at the same time. Who said men can't multitask?

Peace Hotel - nice hat. Can't really see what's going on when the killing happens. Perhaps I need my eyes checked. I need a bath....preferably one like that one!

Pirates of the Carribbean (with some more pirates from China) 3 - What hair? Scars - gagh! What did you do to my baby you evil, evil people? Still cool though, and it takes a rare talent to shine through this badly written part....
Oh. Untimely death.

Anna and the King - Nice house. Nice clothes. Nice kids. Nice music. More martial arts. He looks awesome on horseback. Huge amount of hotness reserves in this film: CYF clearly comes, not from earth, but some planet populated only by beautiful, talented people. Anna who?

Prison on Fire - Oh, he's showing a bit of leg here; that cheers me up no end given the bleak prison existence depicted in this one. Terrible singing. Dang, he's cheeky.

Curse of the Golden Flower - this film tastes of sugar. Sugary tragedy. Wow - death by hair-pin? I totally never saw that coming! You are nasty. Hot and nasty.

The Killer - Well it's the least you can do. Serves you right. Nice Suit. Hotness levels ruined by moustache, but only temporarily. Phew. Those nicknames. Srsly.

I am tired now - more reviews later.
Also I have to pack for holiday (Yay!) :023: and I should be doing that rather than this delightful trip down memory lane....

Still to come:
The Better Tomorrows; Full Contact (Yummy); Dragonball (Yucky); Confucius( My wife secretly loves my hair); Bulletproof Monk; The Corruptor (Yummy); God of Gamblers....

Oh yes, he does look extremely yummy in this!
To quote my mum: "I suspect the real king of Siam wasn't nearly as good looking"

Looking forward to more of your reviews!

Haha, thanks Kudzu , I had a good laugh too at your mini-reviews - very funny!!
They kind of hit the nail on the head for each film . Your dad's quote on Hardboiled made me chuckle too!
Look forward to more bang-on-the -nail reviews from you!
Actually , we did these serious arty reviews way back in the home page for each film , but we should maybe think about a section for irreverent funny reviews too , without being too disrespectful to the great Fat Go of course!
